Fine black lacquer 蝋色漆 (rôiro’urushi) bunko 文箱 (document box).
The cover with silver takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief design) of a verse in grass script. The slightly raised edge decorated with gold maki-e of leaves with silver berries. The sides of the cover and box are both slightly curved inward.
The inside of the cover with gold inscriptions, of which a parts reads ‘Humbly presenting a commemoration of Mr. Sawada Tadarô’ 為紀念謹呈澤田忠太郎君 (Tame’kinen’kintei Sawada Tadarô’kun). Also dating this tebako to Meiji 34 (1901).
The interior with a loose black lacquer panel.
