Stunning wooden ishô’dansu 衣装箪笥 (cabinet of drawers) in a single section. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed.

The drawer faces are made of indigenous kiri (paulownia) wood and the exterior of sugi (cedar) wood. The entire outside is varnished in a sought after warm brown hue, a colour that we like to call ‘golden oak’.

Configured with three wide drawers. All fitted with large circular iron lock plates flanked by sturdy iron ‘warabite’-shaped bail handles with matching escutcheons.
The cabinet is very spacious and ideal for easy storage.

Each side is equipped with a ‘pole-carrying’-handle for easy transport.

The back with a dated inscription in ink: ‘Meiji 21’ 明治廿一年, Anno 1888.

The ishô’dansu is in a very good restored condition. Please see the photos for a condition reference. No key included.

Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).
