Beautiful very large rectangular low table (zataku), very heavy with a splendid grain pattern, made of Keyaki – Zelkova wood. There is also a seemingly natural (but definitely intended) ridge that’s been sanded and polished, following the shape of the table. Some very minor traces of use. On a couple of spots there have been some natural shallows that have been accurately filled with some pieces of dark hardwood by the craftsman who created this table. Please see last two pictures. Luckily the four legs are detachable. This makes it a lot easier to pack and ship. Consequently this piece can also be placed without the legs and used as an impressive “Dai”; or wooden stand used for display of other items. Shōwa period (1926-1989).
