7Nice wooden sewing box 針箱 (haribako) configured with four drawers of different size and on the top a hinged lid.
Three drawers with a fine ‘warabite’-shaped bail handle, and the square drawer with a chrysanthemum-shaped knob.
The interior below the lid has two compartments, one with a cover. On the right side a small movable stick to hold the lid open.
The frontside veneered with gorgeous mulberry with its striking shiny natural woodgrain. The exterior is made from precious keyaki wood (Zelkova – “Japanese oak”). The whole varnished in a nice warm brown hue.
In very good original condition. The drawers run smoothly, and the hinged lid works as it should. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
These boxes where traditionally used to store sewing equipment, but is nowadays also very suitable as a jewellery box.
