High quality wooden Matsumoto chôba’dansu 帳場箪笥 (merchant’s document cabinet) with refined iron hardware. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed.

The front of the drawer faces are made of striking Keyaki burlwood (Zelkova – “Japanese oak”). And the exterior is made of ‘regular’ solid keyaki wood. Varnished in a warm dark brown shade.

Fitted with lock plates that feature the lucky treasure bag 福袋 (fukubukuro). Equipped in their turn with raised knob shaped like chrysanthemum flowers 菊 (kiku) and ‘warabite’-shaped bail handles.

Configured with 9 drawers of different sizes and a pair of sliding doors. The panels of the doors clearly showcase the amazing natural grain of the burlwood.
The drawers and sliding doors run very smoothly. The cabinet has a lot of volume for easy storage.

The sides with a 2 matching handles, for easy transport.

These type of cabinets originate from Matsumoto, Nagano prefecture, in Japan. Famous for their strength and elaborated hardware.

The chôba’dansu is in a very good restored condition with a nice aged patina. Please see the photos for a condition reference. No keys included.
