Striking wooden chôba’dansu 帳場箪笥 (merchant’s document cabinet), in a single section. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed in Japan.

The fronts are crafted from precious ‘Keyaki’ wood (Zelkova – Japanese oak), and the exterior of indigenous sugi (cedar) wood varnished in a deep brown hue still showcasing the intriguing swirling wood grains.

Designed with 9 drawers of different size, a pair of sliding doors – one pair with a decorative panel in relief and the other sturdy horizontal slats, and a hinged door with three more small drawers in its interior.
Equipped with elegant ‘warabite’-shaped patinated bronze bail handles set on ‘Art Deco’-style escutcheons. Paired with circular lock-plates. The sliding doors with oblong thumb grips with a scrolling design in relief.
The drawers and sliding doors run very smoothly. The cabinet has a lot of volume for easy storage.

Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926).
