Stunning lacquered kazari’dana 飾り棚 (display cabinet), entirely coated with glossy black lacquer 蝋色漆 (rôiro’urushi) featuring a serene zen garden motif 枯山水 (karesansui).

Designed with a staggered shelf, a pair of hinged doors, a single hinged door, an open display section with an open gallery, and two side-by-side drawers.

The doors and drawer faces display a continuous scene of a vast traditional Japanese rock garden. Where imposing rock formations are encircled by rippled gravel, all underlined by gentle horizontal lines. Autumn leaves are scattered across the landscape.

Executed in multi-coloured hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) and takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer design) accented with tiny golden pieces of Kirigane 切金 (cut and inlaid pieces of gold leaf).

The doors equipped with long triangular drop-pulls, and the drawers with ‘warabite’-shaped bail handles with decorative escutcheons with a butterfly design.

Signed in the lower left corner ‘[…]ichi’ ‘[…]一’.

Period: Japan – Late Shôwa period (1950-1989).

In a very good original condition with minimal traces of wear conform normal use. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
