Charming and completely restored ishô’dansu 衣装箪笥 (cabinet of drawers) in two sections. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed.

Made of indigenous kiri (paulownia) wood varnished in a sought after warm brown hue, a colour that we like to call ‘golden oak’.

Both sections configured with 2 wide drawers.

Fitted with large circular iron lock plates. Flanked by very special shaped sturdy iron bail handles in a w-shape paired with oblong escutcheons in the shape of petals. For us this is the first time that we have a cabinet with this type of handles.
The drawers run smooth, it is very spacious and ideal for easy storage.

Each side is equipped with a ‘pole-carrying’-handle for easy transport and for ‘locking’ the upper part into place. The backplates with a reticulated flower design.

Height 111.6 cm , Width 87.7 cm, Depth 41.6 cm.

Height of top section  52.6 cm.

Height of lower section 59 cm.
Period: Japan – Early Meiji period (Second half 19th century).

The ishô’dansu is in a very good restored condition. Please see the photos for a condition reference. No key included.
