Chinese archaic green patinated bronze replica ‘gui’ ritual vessel. The large pair of loop handles shaped like dragon-like mythical beasts. Its body covered in a geometrical ‘taotie’ relief design. This motif is a repetitive pattern of zoomorphic mask sof an ancient Chinese mythological creature, known as taotie, one of the “four evil creatures of the world”.
A gui is a type of bowl-shaped ancient Chinese ritual bronze vessel used to hold offerings of food, probably mainly grain, for ancestral tombs.
