Large, heavy bronze temple bell 梵鐘 (bonshô) of traditional shape with a nice green patina.
The handle at the top 竜頭 (ryûzu) in the shape of two mirrored dragon heads in great detail. The distinctly formed bosses 乳 (chi) around the upper part of the bell are set in three rows of three. A band at the bottom with an embossed scrolling foliage design.
The cartouches with inscriptions by the commissioner(s). Of which one is dated ‘Bunka 4’ 文化四年, Anno 1807.

In a good condition with minimal traces of wear conform age and an interesting old restoration. Two places of restored bronze, both approx.. 4 cm, just above a row of bosses, and one bears kanji (characters) reading 大上. It still has an appealing echoing sound when struck, but with a slight metallic ring due to the restoration. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
