Gilded wooden candle sticks

Pair of impressive wooden temple candlesticks 燭台 (shokudai). Lacquered with shiny gold leaf on a black lacquer ground.

Of typical traditional shape; A fluted column above a chrysanthemum-shaped 菊 (kiku) base and carrying a smaller chrysanthemum-shaped top equipped with an iron candle pricket. The bottom side is lacquered black.

A dated inscription in red on the bottom: 13th year of Taishô 大正十三年 (Anno 1924), commissioned by Shôichi Yokoi 横井正一 in the city Ichinomiya 一宮市, Aichi Prefecture.

In a very good original condition with minimal traces of age, like some lacquer loss on the bottom. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.

Height 63 cm, Diameter 17.5 cm.

This kind of candle stands are used in or around altars in Japanese Buddhist temples.
