A Chinese hardwooden ruyi-scepter with a lingzhi- mushroom carved head depicting a wishing-pearl (cintamani) design. The shaft has carved designs of Nankyoku rōjin (The Old Man of the South Pole), lotus flowers, chrysanthemums and peonies. In a wooden box.
Late Qing : Qing Dynastie (1644-1911).
In good condition with some signs of age and wear as may be expected.
A ruyi is a curved decorative object that serves as either a ceremonial scepter in Chinese Buddhism or a talisman symbolizing power and good fortune in Chinese folklore. (Wikipedia).
