A lovely Buddhist kôro 香炉 (censer) crafted from bronze with a deep, dark brown patina, featuring an exquisite lotus motif.

The central part of the censer is designed to resemble a large, fully-opened lotus flower, accompanied on each side by two smaller vessels, each nestled within a lotus bud and leaf.

The various representations of the lotus at different stages of growth – including unfurled leaves, buds, and full blooms – are thoughtfully incorporated to symbolize the path towards Buddhist enlightenment.

The censer rests on a circular foot, adorned with a traditional wave pattern known as seigaiha 青海波,

Period: Japan –Late Meiji period/Taishô period (First quarter 20th century).
