A pair of large bronze temple lamps with openwork chrysanthemum designs, adapted for electricity, with a CEE approved fitting.
The shape of the lantern symbolize the 4 elements:
The bottom-most piece, touching the ground, represents chi, the earth.
The next section represents sui, or water.
Ka or fire, is represented by the section encasing the lantern’s light.
Fū (air) and kū (void or spirit) are represented by the last two sections, top-most and pointing towards the sky.
The section of 1 lantern encasing the light has some traces of restoration, see photo’s, the section of the other lantern encasing the light misses one bronze strip(see last photo) and wiggles a bit, and but the lantern complete as it is, is stable. Some traces of age.
Both lanterns have a beautiful patina.
