Very large Fudô Myô-ô Triad 動三尊 (Fudô Sanzon)
Price: € 4.600,00
A striking and very large polychrome wooden Fudô Myô-ô Triad 動三尊 (Fudô Sanzon), comprising Fudô Myô-ô 不動明王 (Acala in Sanskrit) flanked by his two youthful attendants, Seitaka 制多迦童子 and Kongara 矜羯羅童子.
Fudô Myô-ô is one of the Five Wisdom Kings (Godai Myô-ô 五大明王), fierce manifestations in Esoteric (Shingon) Buddhism representing the wrathful power of the Five Wisdom Buddhas. Of these, Fudô is the central and most venerated figure—known as the “Immovable One,” who transforms anger into compassion and frightens beings into awakening to the teachings of Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana Buddha).
Fudô’s expression is intensely fierce, with furrowed brows over inlaid glass eyes and pronounced tusks emerging from the corners of his mouth. His vivid red hair is bound in tight curls cascading over one shoulder. His muscular figure is wrapped in flowing robes with deeply carved dynamic folds. In his left hand he holds a lasso, used to bind evil spirits, while his right hand wields the iconic Kurikara 倶利伽羅 sword—symbolizing wisdom cutting through ignorance. He stands resolutely on a rocky pedestal, framed by an openwork flaming aureole, representing the purification of worldly desires.
To his sides stand his loyal attendants.
Kongara Dôji, serene and meditative, has a gentle expression with downcast eyes. He holds the stem of a padma (lotus), though the flower is now absent. His pale form is dressed in a red cape and blue skirt. Seitaka Dôji, in contrast, is shown mid-movement with a fierce grimace and raised arm. He wears dark blue robes over bright orange skin and has hair tied into traditional knots.
