Large black lacquer zushi 厨子 (portable shrine with double doors) holding a finely carved wooden Buddhistic figure with traces of gilding: Amida Nyorai 阿弥陀仏 (also known as Amitabha), the Buddha of Infinite Light, displaying the welcoming mudra 来迎印 (raigô-in) to greet the soul of a faithful devotee at death. The robes are elegantly draped across its body, hanging loose along the arms and opening at the chest.
The hair arranged in tight curls, underneath a white inlaid byakugo (urna), flanked by long pendulous pierced earlobes.
Backed by a gilded metal radiant sun-shaped mandorla with in the middle a dharma chakra (wheel of the law).
All resting on a double-lotus throne supported by an ornate galleried pedestal.
The pedestal is removable from the shrine.
The shrine with a gilded interior, and the exterior with refined copper hardware over a black lacquer substrate. The hardware with an scrolling foliage design. The hook-like lock shaped like a branch with plum blossoms.

Considering its age the shrine is in a good condition with old restorations and traces of wear conform age, like some minor lacquer loss. The interior on the left side with a shrinkage crack. Old restoration of the gilding on the background and bottom, and stand of the mandorla. Old defect to the finger of the upward hand. These things we mention to be sure, but they absolutely do not detract from the whole presentation of the piece. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
