Large black lacquer zushi Amida Nyorai

Large black lacquer zushi 厨子 (portable shrine with double doors) holding a finely carved and gilded wooden Buddhistic figure: Amida Nyorai 阿弥陀仏 (also known as Amitabha), the Buddha of Infinite Light, displaying the welcoming mudra 来迎印 (raigô-in) to greet the soul of a faithful devotee at death. The robes are elegantly draped across its body, hanging loose along the arms and opening at the chest.
The hair arranged in tight curls and surmounted by an inlaid ushnisha, underneath a white inlaid byakugo (urna), flanked by long pendulous pierced earlobes.
Backed by an almond-shaped mandorla of cloud scrolls and in the middle a dharmachakra (wheel of the law).
All resting on a double-lotus throne supported by an ornate galleried pedestal.
The pedestal is removable from the shrine, as are the mandorla and the Buddha. Inscriptions on the backside.
Height 67.5 cm, Width 27 cm, Depth 21.5 cm.
Height 30 cm, Width 9.5 cm, Depth 6.5 cm.
Period: Second half 19th century (Meiji period).
Considering its age the shrine is in a very good condition with some minimal to be expected traces of age and wear. Small old defect to a finger of the lower hand. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
