Chinese wooden bodhisattva Guanyin
Price: € 1.200,00
A very large (160 cm!!) beautifully carved statue. Impressively made out of one solid piece of hardwood depicting the standing bodhisattva Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, also known as Avalokiteshvara or Kannon.
On her head sits her teacher, Buddha Amitabha, he is covered by a loosely draped cloth. Her hair is adorned with jewellery. She has a very tranquil and meditative look on her face while her eyes are pointed down as she gazes in the far distance. Behind her head is an intricately carved aureole.
In her left hand she is holding a vase, this vase contains pure water which is capable of relieving suffering and sickness. She holds her other hand in a vitarka mudra.
Her elegant robes seem so flow softly aside as if moved by the wind.
She stands on a lotus-shaped throne with many individually shaped leaves.

In a very good condition.
Height 160 cm, Width 55 cm, Depth 33 cm.
