Amida Nyorai 阿弥陀仏

Large and impressive high quality partially gilded wooden sculpture of Amida Nyorai 阿弥陀仏 (also known as Amitabha), the Buddha of Infinite Light. He is standing on a double lotus throne and is displaying the welcoming mudra 来迎印 (raigô-in) to greet the soul of a faithful devotee at death. His robes are elegantly draped across his body hanging loose along his arms.
Depicted with his physical characteristically ushnisha (fleshy protuberance on the crown of the head) covered by many small curls. He has elongated earlobes and a white inlaid urna. The fine eyes are inlaid with glass as well. The craftsmanship of this statue shows through the quality of the soft carving of his face, which has a very serene and meditative appearance.

The double lotus throne rests on a circular base with decorative panels with a chrysanthemum flower design.
Behind the Buddha a large golden mandorla with a swirling cloud design. In the centre an dharmachakra (wheel of the law) around which three circular appliques with elegantly stylized characters.

In a very good condition with minor traces of age and wear. Please take a close look at the photos of the hands, as two fingers have some damage. And a loose but intact lotus petal at the back. For a clear condition reference, please look at the photos as well.

The entire sculpture is in three separate parts: the Buddha, the base and the mandorla.
