Large polychrome gosho-ningyō (Palace doll) depicting a sitting young boy with a short brocate embroided shirt.

In his left hand he holds the head of a hobby horse, a popular plaything among Chinese and Japanese children.

With open mouth and painted details.

The forehead has a painted presentation ribbon (auspicious mizuhiki ).

Covered with white shell paste (gofun).

Unrestored with some wear.

On a wooden base.

Late Edo Period.
