A Bizen stoneware figure of Tanuki Dōhachi, a badger dog dressed as a monk sitting with a rosary in its hand above a “wooden fish” ( bell or Mokubo).

The figure is used during service in a Buddhist temple.

The Tanuki’s dress is glazed.

The figure was original designed by Ninami Dōhachi (1783-1855).

Meiji period.
